Hiskey’s Return to Portland Memorable

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PHOENIX, Arizona  (June 22, 2001) – Last weekend Kim Hiskey, car owner and driver of the #15 Porsche RSR, returned to the Portland race scene with a vengeance.  Hiskey began her racing career in Portland in April 1998.  Going back to the place where it all started was a welcomed trip for Hiskey.

“I had a great time down there,” Hiskey of Monroe, WA, said.  “It was fun to come back and race against the people I started with.  Everything comes so naturally to me at this track.”

Hiskey took the checkered flag in the GT class in three out of the four races she competed in over the weekend at Portland International Raceway.

Hiskey lost her engine while she was leading the national Sports Car Club of America’s (SCCA) GT1 race.  Changing the motor overnight caused her to miss the qualifying sessions for the Porsche Club of America (PCA) Porsche Cup race and the SCCA Porsche Club regional race.  In turn, Hiskey had to start from the back in those two races.  That didn’t seem to slow her down as she took the checkered flag in both races.

She then qualified seventh for the regional SCCA Rose Cup feature race on Sunday.  After skillfully keeping her #15 machine on the track after a spin in the chicane, she took the checkered flag in her class.

Hiskey proved she has come a long way since her first trips around the Portland track.  In addition to competing in the SCCA, Hiskey owns and co-drives her Porsche GT3-R in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series.  Along with her teammate, Randy Pobst, she has won the Sun Automotive 200 in Phoenix earlier this year.

“I can definitely tell my driving style has changed,” Hiskey said.  “Competing in the Grand American Rolex Series has really sharpened my driving skills.”

The competition in the Porsche class proved to be nothing for Hiskey as she passed 17 cars on the first lap of the Porsche Cup race and 23 cars on the first lap of the regional SCCA Porsche grid race.

Hiskey can next be seen in the Grand-Am Series GT class at the Road America 500 in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, July 6-8.  She will also return to Portland in early August for the American Le Mans Series race.  Hiskey is the only female car owner and driver in both of those series.
