PHOENIX, Arizona
(June 29, 2001) – Grand American Rolex Series driver Kim Hiskey is looking
forward to taking her first laps around the 4-mile, 14-turn road course in
Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
“I have heard so many
great things about this track,” Hiskey said.
“Everyone has told me how fun the track is to race on and how supportive
the fans are of road racing.”
Hiskey, who took home
her first victory earlier this season with teammate Randy Pobst at the Sun
Automotive 200 in Phoenix, says her #15 Porsche GT3-RS is in perfect condition
to win the Road America 500. She credits
the car’s success to crew chief, Greg Fordahl.
“This car has been
amazing all year,” Hiskey said. “Greg
and the rest of the team have kept this car running so well, despite a few
bumps along the way.”
One of the bigger
bumps this season came during the Six Hours of The Glen. Hiskey was hit by a prototype while going
through the esses. Her #15 machine
sustained severe body damage. Luckily,
Hiskey limped away from the accident with only minor injuries.
Amazingly, Hiskey’s
team had her car repaired and was able to roll it onto the transporter for the
following week’s race in Lime Rock, CT.
Hiskey explains that
Road America’s long course is perfect for her 3.6 liter, 420 horsepower
Porsche.
“Fast tracks with
long straight-a-ways really work to the advantage of high horsepower cars like
the Porches.”
When the green flag
falls on the Road America 500, Hiskey will be the only woman behind the
wheel. In fact, she is the only female
car owner and driver in the Grand-Am series.
The Road America 500,
presented by the Chicago Tribune, will begin at noon on Sunday, July 8.
